A man who spiked treats with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his family member had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five children.
